FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When do high school students begin with Green Apple?
We begin through hourly meetings in the Pathway Program as soon as freshman year, and we encourage early engagement to ensure consultant availability. However, most students begin some time in the middle of high school. Our most common program, the Comprehensive Program, commences in the fall of junior year, and students can begin signing up as early as February of sophomore year.
Do you offer hourly meetings?
Yes, we do offer meetings by the hour as well as longer-term packages. We also offer the ability to start with hourly meetings and roll those into a package, should families deem that structure a better model after starting wit hus.
How do you match students with consultants?
Unless through direct referral, all prospective clients contact us for an initial phone consultation and are then matched with the consultant whose experience and availability are the best fit. We are happy to honor any requests as consultants are available.

Do you tend to book up quickly?
Yes, we do. While we try and accommodate students at least through Individual Meetings (assuming consultant availability), we typically fill up for Comprehensive Program students each year. Each consultant sets their number of Comprehensive clients on an annual basis.

Do you work with students who have learning differences?
Yes, many of our students have learning differences. After an initial discussion and often a first meeting, we are able to determine whether our practice is the right fit. If we are not, we are very happy to make a referral to another practice.

Do you work with recruited athletes?
Yes! We all do, every year!

Do you work with visual or performing artists?
Yes! This process can be more intense and we sometimes enlist extra support from our team of consultants.
Where are the meetings held?
All students work with us virtually. Periodically, other meeting locations are utilized, such as in our DC or Massachusetts offices.

What are your outcomes?
Please see our list of student matriculation over the past three years. We measure our outcomes on how effectively we work with students and families to determine fit and achieve our students' end goals.
How is what you do different from what a school-based counselor does?
We know how large school counselor caseloads are, and how often their roles are divided amongst many different areas of developmental guidance. We are fortunate to work with far fewer students and to be able to work intensively during out-of-school hours. Our dive is necessarily much deeper. Both roles are important.
Do you provide SAT/ACT tutoring?
While we make referrals every day, we do not provide in-house SAT/ACT tutoring.

How often do you connect with colleges?
Constantly! We keep our knowledge current and fresh, and we don't hesitate to go to the source if we need to clarify any admission practices or policies.

What is your policy on the use of AI in college admissions?
The role of AI in admissions is changing constantly. Some colleges use it to review applications, and some students would like to use it to compose their essays. We see AI as a useful tool when used appropriately, however in most cases we do not think it is appropriate for essay-writing, per most colleges' policies.
